I met Pablo for the first time back in December. He was at the College Mall Veterinary Hospital with some health issues. Pablo had been lost for almost four months and was found by the Bloomington Animal Care and Control. He was lethargic and not eating well on admission, but he did have a microchip and the shelter was able to get in touch with the owner.

It seemed to be the happy ending the shelter hopes for, because without an owner he would have been deemed too sick to be adoptable. The owner picked him up and eventually brought him to the College Mall Veterinary Hospital for an examination. Pablo was icteric and not eating. His blood-work confirmed something was wrong with his liver. We started him on fluids, antibiotics, and syringe feedings for a condition called hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease). Pablo greatly improved by the next day but still required additional care.

The doctor left messages for the owner about Pablo’s improvement and what he will need at home, but the owner no longer wanted Pablo, and wanted instead to relinquish him. My husband and I offered to take Pablo as a foster. The owner agreed, and after just a week of care Pablo made a full recovery. He gained almost 2 pounds and his blood-work was all normal. A few more weeks passed and he gained more and more of his weight back.

He has been available for adoption at the Bloomington Animal Shelter, since early January. He is a sweet-natured cat who likes attention and playtime. He is FeLV/FIV negative, dewormed, neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations and he is ready for a loving, forever home. If you are interested in Pablo, please visit him at the Bloomington Animal Shelter or give us a call if you have any questions.
